Miami Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is seeking a part-time Music Coordinator. If you’re a musician or vocalist who brings energy and professionalism to your work, we would like to talk with you.

This position will be for 25 hours per month with some schedule flexibility. Our services are primarily on Sunday afternoons (1pm), with the Music Coordinator working two Sundays per month. The pay will be $25/hour with a 401k plan. Please see Job Description for more information.

Job Description

TITLE: Music Coordinator

Status: 25 hours per month (including 2 Sundays)

OVERVIEW

The Music Coordinator (MC) is an integral part of the ministry of the Fellowship, stimulating engagement with music as part of the life of the entire congregation. The MC is a resource for a variety of types of music for Sunday morning services. The MC works closely with the Minister, the Music Committee, and the Fellowship staff in planning and designing worship services. The behavior and attitude of the MC shall reflect the caring nature of ministry and a respect for the shared values of the Unitarian Universalist Association. The MC shall adhere to the ethical guidelines of the Association of UU Music Ministries (membership required and paid for by fellowship).

ACCOUNTABILITY

Position reports to the Minister.

DUTIES

  • Coordinate and perform music for 2 Sundays each month (10-hour time estimation per Sunday worship service)

    • In the weeks prior to a given Sunday, collaborate with the worship leader to select and, in some cases, practice music for the service (2-5 hours)

    • Communicate all necessary information about the music selection to various people throughout the fellowship leadership and congregation including (1-2 hours)

      • By preceding Tuesday,

        • Attribution and Copyright information to Administrator

        • All necessary music materials (scores, chord charts, recordings) tothe musicians (an email list is maintained) which may or may not include accompanist

      • By preceding Friday, lyrics and verse information to Production

    • Perform all music on Sunday (3 hours)

      • Be prepared to lead congregational singing of hymns

      • Coordinate with additional singers, instrumentalists and accompaniment as available

      • Rehearse with musicians and vocalists 1 hour before service

  • Attend monthly Music Committee meetings in order to coordinate with lay music leaders to maintain digital resources and continuity of music throughout each month (3 hours per month)

  • Attend monthly supervisory meetings with Minister (2 hours per month)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background in Music Education, Church Music, or Musical Theatre highly desirable

  • Experience leading amateur musical groups of all ages highly desirable

  • Familiarity with a wide variety of musical styles and traditions a plus

  • Reliability, punctuality, and responsibility

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including relationship-building and responsiveness to the needs and concerns of congregants

  • Proficient office software (preferably MS Office and Google)

  • Sympathy with the mission, vision, and values of the Miami Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA)

  • Job offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and proof of up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination(s)
