Collaborative Pianist
Reports to: Interim Music Director

Status: Part-time
Rate: $150/service, $75/rehearsal
Job Summary
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia is looking for a collaborative rehearsal/worship pianist to support weekly services. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a personal commitment to Love, justice, and radical inclusion, and be eager to explore how music can deepen our spiritual journey together. The selected candidate will be well-versed in various musical genres including praise and worship, contemporary, jazz, and classical. The role will support our Interim Music Director in preparation of songs for weekly choir rehearsals, teaching vocal parts, and execution of weekly worship services. The right candidate may have an opportunity to collaborate with the minister to create soulful worship spaces. We also have an electric organ for those who have organ experience, as well.
Duties:
Play for Thursday night choir rehearsals (This may be negotiable for the right candidate who is not available every Thursday.)
Provide musical accompaniment during Sunday service.
Skills:
Ability to play from traditional sheet music, charts, and some improvisation
Excellent communication skills to effectively convey ideas and foster collaboration among team members.
A passion for worship through music that aligns with our Shared values
Weekly Schedule (Approx.)
Sunday : 9:00 am-11:30
Thursday evening: 1.5 hours (weekly rehearsal)
Pianist will have right of first refusal for opportunities to play for other events such as weddings and funerals at an agreed rate paid by the renters/hosts.
Services:
Sunday Worship - 10:00 am (Three Sundays per month)
Requirements:
Prior experience as rehearsal/audition accompanist or collaborative musician
Ability to Commute to Owen Brown Village in Columbia
Internal Revision
This role will be evaluated annually and may evolve or be revised based on organizational needs and individual strengths.
Hiring Process
1st Round: phone screening on a rolling basis
2nd Round: recorded submission
3rd Round: in-person in early August
The ideal start date is August 20, but flexible for the right candidate.
