We are beginning a new year, a new decade. It is an exciting time for the Association for Unitarian Universalist Music Ministries. It’s a time of change, vision, and transition. As we begin the new year we not only have new staff settling in but we are also saying good-bye to two key players on the Board of Trustees. As 2019 came to a close, so did the service of Shawn McCann as President and Lyle “LB” Brown as Treasurer. On behalf of myself and the entire Board of Trustees, we thank Shawn and LB for their tireless service and commitment to the vibrant future of our Association.
While Shawn and LB leave big shoes to fill, we are pleased to welcome DeReau Farrar as our new President! DeReau has been watching, learning, and planning as President-Elect.
DeReau Farrar has been serving First Unitarian Church of Portland since 2016, first as Acting Director of Music and moving into a permanent position in Spring of 2017. Prior to this, he served UU congregations in Santa Monica and Downtown Los Angeles, California. He has served on the AUUMM Board since 2016 as Member-at-Large, then President-Elect, and served on the Conference Planning Committee 2015-2019. Additionally, he serves on the Advisory Team for Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism (BLUU) and served one year on The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Commission on Institutional Change.
Please help us in welcoming and supporting DeReau’s work, now and throughout his tenure.
